- Regular visits to an OBGYN or midwife
- Eating well and taking prenatal vitamins
- Proper exercise
- Learning about and watching for signs of problems
- Not using drugs, alcohol or smoking any substance
- Checking with the doctor about supplements, either herbal or over the counter.
Planning for the baby includes making decisions about:
- How will you feed your baby (Breastfeeding)
- What type of family planning to use (be sure to visit your doctor between 3 and 8 weeks after you deliver your baby)
- Finding a doctor for your baby
- Learning about health care for your baby
Classes - There are classes about what to expect during pregnancy, how to parent, first aid skills and others useful topics. These classes are free to members. Call 510-747-4577 to learn more.
Baby Steps Mailings - A pregnant member will receive information packets by mail at 12 weeks, 34 weeks and after the baby is born.
Healthy Home Visits - Pregnant members and new parents may receive nursing home visits.
