The Alliance is working with Teladoc® to give you access to care when your primary care doctor is not available. 

You can get care when you need it in the comfort of your own home. Our new benefit partner, Teladoc®, offers licensed physicians 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Talk to a doctor by calling Teladoc at 1.800.TELADOC (1.800.835.2362) or by scheduling a video chat on the Teladoc app to treat non-emergency medical issues. 

What is Teladoc?

Teladoc is a network of board-certified doctors who can help with a wide variety of health concerns. Teladoc is one way you can get care for some health issues that are not life-threatening, like a sprained ankle or sore throat. Teladoc doctors can diagnose and treat minor illnesses, allergies and skin conditions — all by phone or video chat.

How Do I Use Teladoc?

Using Teladoc Is Easy! Always call your regular doctor first. Teladoc should be used only when your doctor is not available. You can also call the Alliance Nurse Advice Line at 1.888.433.1876 if you are not sure you need this type of urgent care, emergency services or self-care at home.

You’ll have to set up an account with Teladoc the first time you use it. All you need is your Alliance member ID number. You can set up your account and request a consult using a option below:

    1. Download the Teladoc app for your mobile phone
    2. Call Teladoc at 1.800.TELADOC (1.800.835.2362)

The Choice is Yours. You can choose between having a video consult or a phone consult. Video consults are available from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, seven days a week. Phone consults are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

 

You can ask for a consult as soon as possible, or you can schedule an appointment. The wait time for a consult is usually less than one hour before you get a call back. 

How Much Do I Have to Pay to Use Teladoc?

Teladoc is new benefit for Alliance members. You do not need to get a pre-approval or pay to use this service.  

What Services Are Covered?

You can use Teladoc for:

  • Minor illnesses
  • Minor injuries
  • Seasonal sickness and allergies
  • Skin conditions and treatments
  • Cold and flu symptoms
  • Rashes
  • Pink eye
  • Sinus problems
  • Respiratory infections
  • Other non-emergency illnesses

Do I Get to Talk to Real Doctors?

Yes. Teladoc uses doctors who are U.S. board-certified internists, state-licensed family practitioners, and pediatricians licensed to practice medicine in the U.S. and living in the U.S.

What if I am Traveling Outside of California?

Teladoc services for  Alliance members are not available outside of California at this time.

Can Teladoc Handle My Emergency?

Teladoc is designed to handle non-emergency medical problems. You should NOT use it if you are experiencing a medical emergency. For medical emergencies, call 911.

Can I Get a Prescription?

Teladoc does not guarantee prescriptions. It is up to the doctor to recommend the best treatment. Teladoc doctors do not issue prescriptions for substances controlled by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), non-therapeutic, and/or certain other drugs which may be harmful because of their potential for abuse. Also, non-therapeutic drugs such as Viagra and Cialis are not prescribed by Teladoc doctors.

If the doctor prescribes medication, it is submitted electronically or by phone to the pharmacy of your choice.

What are my protections when I access telehealth services?

You have the right to access your medical records. You have the right to share the records of any telehealth services provided with your primary care doctor. These records will be shared with your primary care doctor, unless you object.
