The Alliance covers medically necessary COVID-19 therapeutics for all eligible members. Prior authorization is not required for medically necessary COVID-19 therapeutics covered services.

COVID-19 Vaccines

The Food and Drug Administration authorized the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine on December 11, 2020, and the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine on December 18, 2020. 

The Alameda County Public Health Department is working to provide safe, equitable, and broad distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine to people who live and work in our county.

NEW Federal COVID-19 Relief Funds for Medi-Cal Providers: Deadline to Apply Extended to Monday, August 3, 2020

Alliance providers now have a NEW opportunity to apply for provider relief funds from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, due to the ongoing COVID-19 public health emergency.

Regional Shelter-in-Place Orders Extended as Some Rules Ease

The seven Bay Area Public Health Officers who ordered a shelter in place in mid-March will extend the orders through May 31 while some restrictions are eased and tools to strengthen containment of COVID-19 are put into place. Alameda County Health Officer Issues Order for the Public and Workers to Wear Face Coverings to Control the Spread of COVID-19

Alameda County Health Officer Dr. Erica Pan issued an Order for all members of the public to wear face coverings when around people outside of their household. The Order becomes effective at 11:59 pm on April 17, 2020. Enforcement will begin at 8:00 am on April 22, 2020 to allow the public time to comply by making or purchasing a face covering. COVID-19 Updates for Providers

Authorizations for Inpatient Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Care After Business Hours, Weekends, and Holidays:

Alliance contracted and non-contracted providers can call the Alliance On-Call Nurse to obtain authorization for Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) care. Providers only need to make one call to the Alliance to request prior authorization for Inpatient COVID-19 care. If the Alliance does not respond to the request within 30 minutes, the COVID-19 care shall be deemed as approved. The first day of COVID-19 care will be authorized if the member is eligible with the Alliance on the date of service. The Alliance will follow-up with the providers on the next business day with the authorization number. As a reminder, there is no prior authorization needed for lab tests, and members are not responsible for any co-pays.

Important Update: Flexibility and Reimbursement for Alliance Network Community Based Adult Service (CBAS) Centers

Effective Monday, March 16, 2020, CBAS Centers will have the flexibility to administer day-center activities using alternative modalities and settings, to support the ongoing statewide efforts to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). Effective, Monday, March 30, 2020, we are strongly advising providers to begin submitting Provider Dispute Resolution (PDR) forms electronically through the Alliance Provider Portal or secured email.

Effective immediately, all Alliance contracted providers billing for video, telephone and telehealth appointments, may ONLY use CPT codes for an office visit with the appropriate place of service and/or modifier codes, regardless of the modality. New Alliance State-Sponsored Provider Incentive for COVID-19 Vaccines

Given the importance of the provider-patient relationship, you are a key and critical part of this solution. We recently began sharing monthly COVID-19 vaccination gap-in-care reports with our providers. Effective Tuesday, September 21, 2021, with support from the State California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), we are offering a provider incentive to encourage increased COVID-19 vaccination rates by Monday, February 28, 2022. Alliance Safety-Net Sustainability Fund

The Alameda Alliance for Health (Alliance) Board of Governors unanimously approved $16.6 million on Friday, May 8, 2020 as emergency crisis funding to support frontline safety-net providers treating Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) patients, expanding COVID-19 testing sites, and to support other organizations that serve vulnerable residents across Alameda County.
