MEDICARE PREVENTIVE VISITS
INITIAL PREVENTIVE PHYSICAL EXAMS AND ANNUAL WELLNESS VISITS
Alameda Alliance for Health (Alliance) is your partner in health. Below is a summary of some check-ups that are important for your health.
Your First Year: The “Welcome to Medicare” Visit (also known as the Medicare Initial Preventive Physical Exam IPPE)
- When to get it: During your first 12 months with any Medicare Part B plan. This exam is only done once per lifetime.
- What happens: You and your doctor talk about your health history and how to stay healthy. Your doctor will complete a physical exam.
Every Year After: The Annual Wellness Visit
- When to get it: Once a year, after you have been with any Medicare Part B plan for over 12 months.
- What happens: You have a talk with your care team about screenings (tests), labs, and referrals to specialists. This visit is not a physical exam.
